These sugar cookies are great for Christmas.
You can cut them into fun shapes and decorate them with icing and sprinkles.
For the cookies:
1/2 cup (115 g) butter, soft
3/4 cup (150 g) white sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 and 1/2 cups (190 g) all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
A small pinch of salt
1 cup (120 g) powdered sugar
2–3 tablespoons milk (or water)
A few drops of vanilla extract (optional)
Sprinkles for decoration (optional)
Heat the oven
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Mix the wet ingredients
Put the soft butter and sugar in a large bowl.
Beat them together until the mix is light and creamy.
Add the egg and vanilla and mix again.
Add the dry ingredients
In another bowl, add the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Mix them with a spoon.
Slowly add this flour mix to the butter mix.
Stir until a soft dough forms.
Shape the cookies
Lightly flour your table or counter.
Put the dough on the table and roll it out with a rolling pin.
Make the dough about 1/4 inch (0.5 cm) thick.
Use cookie cutters to cut out Christmas shapes (stars, trees, hearts, etc.).
Place the shapes on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
Bake
Bake the cookies for about 8–10 minutes.
The edges should be just a little golden, not brown.
Let the cookies cool completely on the baking sheet.
Put the powdered sugar in a small bowl.
Add 2 tablespoons of milk (or water) and mix.
If the icing is too thick, add a little more milk.
If it is too thin, add a little more powdered sugar.
Add a few drops of vanilla if you like and mix again.
When the cookies are cool, use a spoon or small knife to spread the icing on top.
Add sprinkles before the icing dries.
Let the icing dry, then enjoy your Christmas cookies! 🎄✨
